Contributors to Smog: Breakdown of Sources

According to a recent report by the Punjab Urban Unit, the transportation sector is the largest contributor to air pollution in the region. The report highlights that vehicle emissions account for 83.15% of total pollution.
Additionally, industrial activities contribute 9.07%, agricultural waste burning 3.9%, and garbage burning 3.6% to the pollution levels. Pollution from household activities and commercial buildings is relatively low, contributing 0.11% and 0.14%, respectively.
Experts emphasise the need for strict measures in the transportation sector to curb pollution. They also urge the public to use eco-friendly vehicles and support government policies aimed at reducing air pollution.
